Harvard University Security, Parking and Museum Guards Union (HUSPMGU)

Union History and Represented Employees on Campus

The National Labor Relations Board certified the Harvard University Security, Parking and Museum Guards Union (HUSPMGU) in 1996 as the collective bargaining agent for all Harvard-employed Museum Attendants and Monitors, Parking Service Monitors, and Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) Security Guard positions. From 1982 through 1996, the positions were previously represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 254 (now Local 615).

Today, the University no longer directly employs security guards. Rather, multiple contract vendors provide security services to the various schools and departments on campus. All vendor workers are covered by the University’s Wage and Benefits Parity Policy (WBPP).

The remaining HUSPMGU members are employed through either University Operations Services (UOS; parking monitors) or the Harvard University Art Museums (HUAM; museum attendants).
